Do you find solving anagrams as INCOMPREHENSIBLE as solving a PROBLEM IN CHINESE? Do you know a ONE WORD anagram for NEW DOOR?

The origin of anagrams is ascribed to a Greek poet, Lycophron. He lived during the fourth century BC and was brought to Egypt by King Ptolomy where he amused the king’s court by inventing flattering anagrams of their names. Originally an anagram was simply a word which, when reversed, formed another word. For example: ROOM/MOOR or TIDE/EDIT. The word anagram is derived from Greek. Ana means backwards and gramma means a letter.

|
The best anagrams are those where the rearranged letters bear some relationship to the original word or name. For instance, the letters of the word SOFTHEARTEDNESS can be arranged to form the phrase OFTEN SHEDS TEARS.

One famous anagram dates back to the Middle Ages when an anagrammist devised a supposed dialogue between Pilate and Jesus. Pilate asks QUID EST VERITAS? (What is truth?) and Jesus replies EST VIR QUI ADEST (It is the man before you).
