King Jovial’s Party

“I’ve just been staying”, writes Toady, “at the court of King Jovial of Hilaria. Everything there is delightfully informal.”

“We dined, for instance, at a round table (thus avoiding difficult questions of precedence). There were twelve of us at the table - six husbands and their wives - and the rule was that no husband sat next to his wife, but was separated from her by the same number of places. For instance, Queen Cilly sat opposite to Lady Peekaboo while the Duke of Dull Ness sat three places to the Queens’ left. I was three places to the Duchess’s right, the Marchioness of Muttonfat was two places from the Queen, while my wife sat opposite Lady Parsley.

Draw a plan of the table showing how the twelve diners were seated.

Riddles

The answer to these riddles is, in each case, a one-word answer.

i)
My first wears my second, my third might be,
What my first would acquire if he went to sea,
Put together my one, two, three,
And the belle of New York is the girl for me.

ii)
No hard decode, and. in this case,
A solid answer you can claim.
It has, (I’m told) a different face,
For every letter of its name.

Beginning with King Jovial, the diners were seated clockwise as follows: King Jovial, the Duchess of Dull Ness, the Marquis of Muttonfat, Mrs Toady, Lord Parsley, Queen Cilly, Lord Peekaboo, the Marchioness of Muttonfat, the Duke of Dull Ness, Lady Parsley, Toady and Lady Peekaboo
Mantattan
Dodecahedron (an anagram of: no hard decode)
